Perhaps the Maltese Public might have expected more from Judo since Judo is the title holder of the Maximum number of Gold Medals won in these Games in all sports. However, considering that the team was made up of 7 athletes and 4 of them won bronze medals by fighting and winning, is not to be considered as a bad result, particularly when the 3 athletes who did not win any medals were participating for the 1st time in the GSSE. Definitely, the Malta Judo Federation will be taking into consideration all the athletes’ performance, results, and training schedule leading to these games in making the strategy for the next games in Liechtenstein in 2011.
The President, who attended the event representing the International Judo Federation, already had talks with the President of the International Judo Federation, Mr Marius Vizer, and in principle decided to investigate the possibility of organising the 1st World Judo Championships for Small Nations next year and every other year between the GSSE. This would be a great opportunity for those countries with a small population and a small resource to compete with similar countries.
The Federation is grateful to the Malta Olympic Committee for making funds available for the preparation and also to the Ministry of Sport and KMS for their collaboration and particularly in the introduction of the 20 / 20 scheme of which Joanna was beneficiary. The Federation is also grateful to all the sponsors who believe that Judo can achieve results. The President thanks the athletes for their sacrifices and hard work and told them to start plans for the preparation for Liechtenstein 2011, and also all the team officials who worked in the bachground.
